However, much of this depth is further expanded thanks to the large amount of extras that have been included within the expansion pack. Along with the increased level cap, the expansion pack comes with more than 50 new spells and 40 new magical items.

There are new cities to explore and companions to gain in your quest and bosses to defeat, although you will have to advance the main story plot far enough to access much of the new content. My new favorite equipment comes from the realm of Stormreach, where you have the option to battle the Stormlords for their gear.

Successfully defeating everyone from their guards to their king earns you Storm weapons and armor, which, when equipped, will clear out an entire column with every four- or five-gem combo. If you're lucky enough to chain together two or more combos in a row, you could easily come close to clearing the entire grid, causing a lot of damage and maxing out your mana levels so you can cast more spells.

You'll also face off against a number of new monsters, such as Ur-Ghouls, Nightblades and others. While higher level characters will be able to smoke many weaker characters and cities without issue, most of the newer creatures will scale up adequately to your level and make each battle challenging for your character. The only problem with this is that the piling on that the game is well known for on higher levels can be extreme. I've been in some fights where enemies have gotten six combos in a row and caused points of damage in one strike.

That's pretty ridiculous chaining and insanely manipulated "luck," even by the standards of this game, which is unapologetic and often times infuriating in how skewed towards the computer it can be. A number of the older issues that came up with many of the handheld versions appears to have been addressed in this version, so you no longer need to worry about your companions not helping you in battle. In fact, there are a number of battles where you'll be able to combine the abilities of your party together to aid you against some battles, which will be extremely important.

What's more, the game no longer has repetitive grid layouts like the DS version had, so you can't always take advantage of the same grids over and over again. The game doesn't have as many freeze issues or technical glitches either. Finally, as an aesthetic change, the mana bars are now arranged horizontally instead of vertically, which makes it easier to see what your resistances are to certain elements, as well as how much magic you have stored up.

However, the game does come with some problems that don't make a lot of sense. For one thing, the tutorial text and pop-up bubbles at the beginning are still a bit too jumbled and even has some text missing, which is strange to see considering how many times the game has been ported to different consoles.

Another issue is that the game loops the same song over and over again regardless of what you're doing in the game. This may seem like a minor issue, but when you realize that the game is supposed to have dynamically changing music as well, it doesn't make any sense that the main menu screen music will play during quest cutscenes, or that you may constantly hear battle songs as you move across the game map.

Finally, and perhaps incomprehensible for PS3 owners, is the lack of Trophies when the version had achievements for both the original and the expansion pack. I know that the game has come out a year later as well as the fact that Trophy support is not a priority right now. However, I have two problems related to that for this game. First, if you're going to combine the two titles and present them in one cohesive package, it's not that hard to take the exact same achievements that were included in the version and make them available for the PS3.

Thanks for the update, but that new patch doesn't work on my machine like the old one. I have to keep things as they are. Last edited by Drivol ; 6 Mar, pm. The expansion is great. Love the extra classes. Good to see other people discovering it too. You've done some great work here SirNinja!

Wow, i never thought this was even possible. Awesome news. Arrix View Profile View Posts. Antoine View Profile View Posts. Thanks, never knew this existed! Will applying this update delete my current save file? I would back up your saves first just to be absolutely sure, but they should be okay.

What could be cooler? How about a Pegasus you can capture. Puzzle Quest: Revenge of the Plague Lord continues its perfect and seamless integration into the world through its difficulty. The balance of the characters was very exciting, technically. You could not just jump into the missions if you were a new or low level player, so it actually gave you something to work towards.

But it also wasn't necessary to be a perfect level 50 player to get into the material. You would think it would be impossible to strike the kind of balance that challenged the upper levels, but wasn't so elite that you couldn't get into it with a mid-ranged character. Yet, they were able to implement a very good balance and make it accessible to many.

This was a major feat, and they made it look easy. The MMO world would give their left arm to achieve this balance. For those of you who have never had a chance to walk through Selentia, it is a simple game. All battle is done through the puzzle. You align pieces into groups of at least three, and then you receive the effect of those pieces. Lining up the multi-colored mana pieces adds them to your character.

This mana is saved for use in magic spells and physical attacks you perform on your opponent. All you need to do is move the mana piece one space in any of the four directions so that it lines up with at least two other pieces of the same type.

The same is true with the skulls, stars, and gold. The skulls give you an instant strike at your opponent. The gold adds to the reward you will receive when you defeat your opponent. The stars add to your experience. To select the piece, you will move the cursor with the left thumbstick over it, and then select it with A.

Now you simply move your left thumbstick in one of the four directions you wish move. Moving along the map works the same way.
