Actualy forget it Microsoft has lost one of its customers, I'm gonna go with Linux Ubuntu much better I think, Thanks for all your help it is just the way microsoft treated me. I think Microsoft are very rude and need to set their priortys right, otherwise theyre gonna loose a few home users!

Thomas, The Product Key Updater Utility is a stopgap measure designed to temporarily get a nongenuine installation of XP genuine again. Before I asked for help in here I phoned their technical helpline they were just soo rude to me So your saying if I get a proper cd no matter what product key it uses and i do a clean instalation with that cd i will be able to enter my product key during instalation?

Liam03, Product Keys are designed to work with their matching "flavor" and edition of CD, but are not so specific that this one individual Product Key will only work with this one exact Windows CD and no others. Monday, May 7, PM. Terms of Use.

I believe you will find that they do not match. Hfcg, I believe you are correct. Now I am trying to use a Home with SP3 disc. Thanks for the heads up! Posted 09 June - PM.

Neil Jones Member 5k Member 8, posts. Yes you can. Posted 10 June - AM. NJ--you might very well be right about this. Posted 10 June - PM. OEM licences are legally not transferable from one computer to another, whereas Retail keys are providing they're not on more than the number of computers stipulated in the licence, typically one.

OEM licences legally die with the machine. The only other noticeable differences save for the labelling of the disks on original disks is OEM keys have no upgrade ability they'll insist on wiping the machine and Retail keys are upgradable from previous versions of Windows and if you use them on an empty disk it'll ask you for a Windows 95 or later CD before it'll do anything else.
